16 October 1968, one of the most important days in the history of the modern Olympic Games regarding HumanRights. The picture is showing US athlete Tommie Smith during the Olympic ceremony for winning the 200m race, together with his teammate John Carlos (bronze medal) and the Australian Peter Norman (silver medal). They voluntarily decided not to wear shoes to symbolize black poverty and they all wore Olympic Project Human Rights badges by Norman suggestion who was very critical of the White Australia Policy. Their actions, despite the black gloves and the similar salute, was not connected with the Black Power movement, instead, it was a protest for Human Rights to everyone, no one excluded. All this lead them to a ban from Olympic games but after many years they got finally recognized for their brave acts.
